Knots today

Nowadays, due to technical-maritime advances, sailor’s knots have been relegated to a few applications.

Despite this, the crews of training ships in all the world’s navies remain faithful to their ancestors and practice sailor’s knots.

They also strive to perfectly execute the different tasks they carry out on board, taking care, with the purest sailor style, of the perfect rigging of all the ship’s maneuvers and its aesthetic appearance.

In any corner of the world, on board a ship, or in a dock or warehouse near it, sailors have always practiced knots, they have made or mended nets, they have made loops, seams in ropes and other sailor’s jobs with skill and speed.

In Spain, around 1960, the revival of sailor’s knots began, giving rise to a type of nautical craftsmanship that was highly decorative, functional and at the same time educational, its greatest exponent being paintings of sailor’s knots.
