Description

Richard I of England (n. Beaumont Palace, Oxford, September 8, 1157 – Châlus, Limousin, France, April 6, 1199), known as Richard the Lionheart, was King of England between 1189 and 1199, being the third son of King Henry II of England and Leonor of Aquitaine.
After the estrangement of his parents, he remained with his mother Leonor and was invested with the title of Duke of Aquitaine in 1168 and count of Poitiers in 1172. Simultaneously his older brother, Enrique the Younger, was crowned as -second – King of England, subordinating his father.
From an early age, he seemed to have outstanding political and military skills and became notorious for his bravery and chivalry, fighting hard to control the rebellions of the nobles in his own territory.
