Nowadays, on sailing training ships in all the world’s navies, both in the navy and those belonging to schools and associations of a civil nature, nautical knots and rigging work are taught and practiced.
People who have had the opportunity to visit a sailing training ship have been able to see, among other things, the perfect rigging of its maneuver and the different rigging work, among which the following stand out: the bell’s tail, the ropes and handrails decorated or finished with artisanal and striking pine cones or braids, the struts of the rigging and dining rooms decorated with multiple barrels, the cat ladders made of wood and rope, the pallets, in addition to a wide range of knots, rigging turns in pins, cleats, even artistic work done with ropes on the deck as simple decoration during visiting hours.
In all this, the good work of the seafaring personnel in the specialty of maneuvering can be appreciated, the oldest and most seafaring of the specialties, whose highest representative is the boatswain or nostramo.
